Disease is very much on a spectrum. Some people are well, some are sick, and a whole bunch of people are somewhere in the middle.

So many times I hear from patients that they visited their primary care doctor because they just didn’t feel well. After a barrage of blood tests and imaging their results come back normal, or “within range”. Without a diagnosis their doctor has nothing to offer and sends them on their way.

But they still feel exactly the same way. Lousy.

This experience is all too common because health and disease exist on a spectrum of disharmony.

At one end of this spectrum is someone experiencing a disease or illness state.

These folks are truly sick. They have a western medical diagnosis, are likely on one or more pharmaceuticals, and the disease state is impacting their daily life. Perhaps they’ve had surgery (or multiple surgeries) and they’re living far from their human potential.

Further on down the spectrum is a person who is healthy with an absence of disease.

Two types of people fall into this category. One is the person who is “healthy and well”. The second is one who is “healthy and unwell”. They both are free of a medical diagnosis, but the difference lays in how they feel. Healthy and well people feel good most of the time. They have enough energy, they’re sleeping good, and they’re relatively happy. Healthy and unwell folks though feel pretty crappy much of the time. They’re chronically fatigued (or outright exhausted), don’t sleep worth a lick, and are moody and depressed (or anxious) almost daily.

On the other end of the spectrum is a state of optimal health, or thrive.

Here, people are ready to take on the world and are stepping more fully into their potential. They have plenty of energy all throughout the day, are digesting their food well, sleep like a champ, and are mentally clear and sound. Not only that, but these folks are aligned with their purpose and are able to make big change in their families and communities.
